Born in New
England, and came to San Diego in 1950 after
Dartmouth College
and serving 3 Navy years in Korea and then flight training. Married
while in the Navy and settled in Coronado and am blessed with 5
children and now 7 grandchildren, the oldest 2 are at USC and Boston
College.
Worked at SD
Trust & Savings for 5 years and became advertising manager. While there,
entered the
American Institute of Banking
and studied finance and contract law in San Diego and financial public
relations at
Northwestern
in Chicago. Then worked at the Old Globe Theatre as Business Manager.
Later served on the Board for 25 years; And was the Treasure during the
time of the fires and reconstruction.
Purchased a
small printing and advertising business in 1957 that grew to 30
employees, and developed the first computerized cost and profit control
system for the printing industry. Sold the business and semi-retired
after 20 years to invest in real estate trust deed notes. Studied real
estate law, earned a broker’s license.
Opened Harris
Mortgage in 1977 and have originated and placed over 500 equity loans to
date as the agent of the borrower, to whom the fiduciary obligation is
due. Have been an approved broker for the last 15 years placing
conventional residential and commercial mortgages with Downey,
Countrywide and other lenders. Accepted an offer to join Prudential in
1992 as a financial planner; earned a Series 7 securities license and a
California insurance license. Became independent in 1997; was appointed
as an agent by the Medical Savings Account Company and by the First
Penn-Pacific Life Insurance Co for long term care insurance and life
insurance products.
With 20 years
experience as a business owner, 30 years as a mortgage broker with 15
years in financial planning and insurance, my office and the independent
loan processors, appraisers and other specialists that make up George B.
Harris & Company have a mission to serve the financial needs of
property owners and real estate agents in the 5 Southern California
